With the everlasting snow and the vast expanses of wilderness, Swedish Lapland is the perfect place to glide across the landscape. Let a somereindeer or a pack of dogs take the strain whilst you get to view this extraordinary place pass by. You can camp out at night in the arctic, even stay in an igloo and utilising tried and tested traditions you will barely even notice the cold.
We offer a range of sledding experiences from a few hours duration to a full on week long trek across Swedish Lapland. Either sleighing with reindeer or more typically with husky dogs the sledding adventure is one that will stay with for ever. Below are listed some all round packages, which include both dog and reindeer trips, that also incorporate stop offs with activities such as igloo building and visiting a traditional Saami village. Also listed are the longer treks and sledding journeys lasting up to a week.
£459 per person for one week, including; transfers and self catering accommodation.
Stay at the Travelapland River Side retreat along the banks of the river Lule,in specially converted wooden buildings from the Settlers era. Here you can have access to the frozen river and endless opportunities to snow shoe walk as well as being able to use the small hill for basic skiing and snowboarding.
The price includes a day Dog Sledding around the village of Vuollerim and into the wilderness.
Food is available on site for you to prepare yoursleves an there are twice weekly trips to the local village, Vuollerim, where you can use the ops. There are magnificent chances to view some or the Lapland wildlife directly from the accommodation and magnificent views of the valley from atop the nearby hills which are easy to access on ATV's or a short workout using snow shoes!
This package also includes a couple of sledding behind an ATV or Snowmobile, which takes you onto the frozen rivers and over the top of the valley, where you can view the delightful sights.
£599 per person, As above but also includes a day trip to the Reindeer Retreat, right in the depths of the wilderness, here you will dog sled for a few hourse and help to build an Igloo!
Reindeer Sleigh Ride and Dog Sledding in Forests and Lakes of Jokkmokk
£1099 per person for 6 nights. Includes; all transfers and accommodation. Available between 22nd January and 5th March.*
This fantastic offer gives you the chance to spend a couple of nights at the beginning of the tour at the unique, Solberget Reindeer Retreat where there is barely a glimpse of civilisation. Wood is used for heat and water comes from a spring in the forest. You even get to chop the wood yourself, and collect the water for the all important traditional Swedish Sauna! On day two you get to meet the reindeer and go out on a sleigh ride from the retreat, with every possibilty of seeing a moose, capercaillie or more reindeer.
Day three sees you travel to the historic town of Jokkmokk, the capital of Swedish Lapland and home of the world famous Saami Winter Market. Here you meet the musher, learn how to control the sled and get to meet the dogs for the first time. Later in the day you drive the dogs out to the forest where you spend the night in either a kota (traditional Saami tent) or a wooden cabin, depending on your preference. In the evening you get to tast a fantastic meal.
On day four heading through the forests you get back to Jokkmokk i the afternoon where you can sample all the town has to offer, there is also the chance to visit the Arctic Colours photography gallery, the night is spent at the youth hostel.
Day five sees everybody head to the Saami museum where you learn all about the history and culture of the Saami in this region. In the afternoon you head back to the Reindeer Retreat, where the relaxing sauna will be waiting for you.
Day six is an amazing opportunity to do some skiing in the area around the retreat, atop the mountain is a log cabin with a fantastic viewing post, if getting up the mountain doesn't interest you then there is the chance to visit an abandoned farm and catch a glimpse of life in Swedish Lapland for the Swedish settlers here 100years ago. On the seventh day, after breakfast we collect you from the retreat and take you back to the airport.
8 days Dog Sledding in Wolverine and Lynx Territory
£2099 per person.- price includes; all transfers, accommodation and all food.
The wolverine, apart form being a famous comic book and film character, is the largest of the land dwelling Mustelidae, that is the same genus as badgers and weasels. In size it is between a medium and large sized dog. In ferosity it is matched by none. A very strong and able predator wolverines have also been witnessed attacking bears for their kill, sometimes coming out the victor in viscious battles to the death.
Don't worry though they are not known to attack humans! And your guide will be carrying gun in any case! The more ellusive Lynx is much less likely to be seen, but can be tracked with relative ease. The largest wild cat in Europe they can often reach 70-75cm in height.
This absolutely incredible journey will see you cross some of the most spectatular terrain in the world, glide along frozen rivers, cross tundra, glen, and go over mountains. With the ever present chance of seeing the magnificent Northern Lights and when the skies are clear, as they nearly always are, you can get a view of the stars completely untouched by light polution. A sight worth seeing in its own right!
On all nights you will journey to and spend the night in, any of a number of log cabins dotted throughout the wilderness. Food is provided on all days.
**On this package the start times are quite specific, therefore depending on the availabilty/or timing of your outgoing flight there may be the need for an extra night in Jokkmokk. No bad thing we might add!**
Day 1 After collection at the airport by Travelapland we take you to Jokkmokk where we hand you over to your sledding guides, there you all share a meal and have a look over the equipment.
Day 2 First you have breakfast, then make your way to the kennels and meet the dogs. After packing the vehicles and driving to Kvikkjokk, where the real adventure begins, you will be given instruction in how to handle the sled take care of the dogs. Then the sleds are loaded and off you go along the frozen river Tarra and beyond.........
Day 3 Lynx territory, you pass through steep ravines, mountain slopes birch forests and all manner of terrain features.
Day 4 The top of the mountains, one of worlds greatest views! Then on into Wolverine territory.
Day 5 A day on the tundra, the exact trip and directions depend on the weather, but you can be sure it will be quite exceptional.
Day 6 You begin to head back towards Kvikkjokk, this time reaching some good speeds on the descent down the mountain.
Day 7 Sees you pass through the Tarra valley and traverse the forests that have been surrounding you for most of the journey. When you reach Kvikkjokk the minibus is loaded up and you return to Jokkmokk where you stay for the night in the same hotel your adventure began. Have a well earned sauna before enjoying one last meal together.
Day 8 Travelapland collect you from Jokkmokk in the morning and take you to the airport, if there is time before your flights depart we can have a look around the local shops or see some of the sights of the villages and towns along the road back to Lulea.
*The weather may interfere with the scheduling on some days, however we will endeavour to fit everything still. The weather is normally very predictable in Lapland so this is not normally a problem.
