The Jokkmokk Winter Market

Available over the first week of February each year.

Far more than just a market, the annual Jokkmokk Winter Market event is a great introduction to traditional Sami culture and much, much more.  The week offers visitors a fun packed programme of entertainment ranging from live music to theatre and storytelling. For those that like to take home a momento of their travels, there are numerous market stalls offering a huge range of goods from basic Sami foods to beatifully crafted Sami knives made from reindeer horn and locally found wood.

For those who really want to feel the wind in their hair and enjoy this winter wonderland to the full, there are regular dog-sledding and snowmobile trips across the snowy tundra surrounding Jokkmokk. The origins of the event date back to the 1600s, but each year the festival introduces new events and attractions so that visitors never know what to expect from one year to the next. There are also all the usual market attractions, including handicraft stalls and traditional food and drink vendors.

Travelapland can offer a very special package for groups wishing to visit the Jokkmokk Winter market.
